The Wrightsville Beach Fishing and Carolina Beach Fishing has been hot the past couple of days. We have had a great week with Spanish on Fly (you have to see the video!), Black drum on a new fly I designed..”the transformer ”(the tying video is below), and we boated a 164 pound Bull Shark. The shark was weighed and filleted and eaten so it did not go to waste. It is the biggest one to date we have landed and it surpassed John Ribbles and Paul Rocha’s 131 lb baby shark. LOL, I hope they are.. (Read More)- The Air is Cooling Down But the Fishing is Heating Up Around Wrightsville Beach! - Posted to Captain Jot Owens Fishing Report by SFTC Press
I’m very happy that fall is really starting show here in eastern North Carolina. This is by far my favorite time of the year for outdoors and fishing in North Carolina. As the air temps Fall the fishing action just heats up more and more every day!
We’ve done a lot of Flounder fishing the last couple of weeks, with some pretty good days of fishing. Most of the Flounder are eating Mullet and Mud minnows on light Carolina rigs. The Flounder are mixed in size to just under keeper size to a.. (Read More)- Fishing Report Deep Jigging 10-05-2008 and 10-06-2008 - Posted to LiveLine Charters Fishing Report by SFTC Press
We finally got a small break in the weather and I was able to take Sami from anglerproshop.com and 3 other great anglers from all over. We have been trying to set up a 2 day trip for a while and the weather would not cooperate. We fished Sunday and had a great day deep jigging for giant Amberjack. This was the goal of the trip was to catch triple digit fish. The fishing was all quality fish all but one fish on Sunday was over 50 inches. We had fish between 53, 55, 56, 57, 58 and the.. The inshore fishing was really good before all of the high winds we have had for the past week. It should really turn on now that this big low pressure is out of here.
We have been catching good numbers of redfish, speckled trout, and flounder on both artificial and live baits.
The bluefish 1 to 4 lbs are everywhere attacking the large schools of finger mullets.
There are also good numbers of sheephead around the docks along the ICW.
There are also some decent sized black drum around.
We have had a blast catching reds, specs, and flounder on artificials. One day my.. (Read More)- Strong Low Pressure Hampers Fishing - Posted to Rod-Man Charters Fishing Report by SFTC Press
Hi Folks,
It is past time for a report, but I was trying to wait until I could give you something more positive. It seems the weather has a longer time in mind, so I thought I would go ahead and bring you up to date. The persistent NE winds and now the strong low pressure have really put a stop to fishing. The fish are there, but it is just not comfortable to get out in 20-40 knot winds to fish. When the wind does settle we will be in full fall fishing.. The fishing is really starting to take off, we’ve had nice catches of over the slot Red Fish, Big Blues and huge Sharks. The Flounder bite has slowed a bit due to the weather and extra high tides but I expect it to pick back up soon. When it does I expect to start seeing some really nice catches as these fish will start feeding for the fall. This month and October will be some of the best fishing. So don’t miss this opportunity for a big red or that of a doormat Flounder.

Nice sea conditions have allowed going to the gulf stream.
Catch of blackfin tuna, wahoo and mahi! A blue marlin was hooked at the 100 fathom curve. The fishing should only get better and was told the yellow fin were down off of Charleston last week. They should be making their way north in the next couple of weeks.
The blackfin were caught way back behind the boat! Long lines were 200 plus yards out. Light leader and small baits were the ticket. Sreader bar rigs also scored well on the tuna!

The beautiful thing about the Carolina coast, is that there is always a fish that you can catch. Right now, it is grouper time. Along with Grouper, there are snapper, Black Sea Bass, and Grunts to be caught. IF you find the fish it can be non-stop action all day. The best thing about it is that all of those fish also make great table fare. The Striped Bass are also biting well this time of the year, and they can provide a fun, hard fight. Book your summer trips now, and gurantee your spot.

The fishing has been good and thankfully I have been busy. I want to thank all of my repeat clients for coming down in the fall and over the Holidays to enjoying the great fall/winter fishing. Winter fishing has arrived with speckled trout, striped bass, and red drum. Most of the fish have been caught on artificial lures and live bait. Everyone has enjoyed the new trolling motor, It allows us to cover lots of ground and makes lure fishing a blast.

Surf fishing in duck really turned on over the past two days. Black drum, puppy drum, bluefish, sea mullet, and trout have all made a great showing. Jay Bender reported catching 18 speckled trout last night behind the Hampton Inn, and catching 25 behind Sharky’s this morning. The Sea Hag with Captain Frank McCargo fished a half day trip this morning and caught a limit of nice sized king mackerel, a nice jack, and a black tip shark. Frank was fishing at the AR145. It’s time for Spanish Mackerel and I’m here to tell you there are plenty out there. The piers are getting their share of Spanish. The size is still a little small. The biggest I have heard of was around one and a half pounds. Five to ten miles out there are plenty of mid-size King Mackerel around the fifteen-pound range. On the bottom, Black Bass and Snapper are really starting to bite. If you run to the Gulf Stream, well, that’s another story. Plenty of Tuna and Wahoo and some are trophy size.
