Topsail & Surf City Outdoors-Fishing Report
June 2nd, 2008 by SFTC PressHi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. I guess everybody heard about the boat that went down just outside Rich’s Inlet last Monday evening. Folks I rant and rave about safety and how it doesn’t take but a second to be in bad trouble! Unfortunately a man lost his life due to a tragic accident. Right now a family is mourning the loss of a loved one and a friend is missing his buddy. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and hope that you folks will say a prayer for them. The weather this time of the year is extremely fickle and can turn from slick calm to 6 footers in a short time. Pay attention to the weather forecast and tell someone where you are headed and when to expect you back. Check all your safety gear and use it. It’s not there just to take up space. Know your limits and don’t exceed them, no matter if you are inshore or offshore!
Now lets change the subject! The fish are biting folks. Spanish are thick as the hair on a dogs back outside the inlets and the Kings are showing up too. Cobia are being spotted and a few caught! It shouldn’t be long before the Tarpon come through as well. I’ve heard of some Mahi in the 30 mile range and the Gulfstream is Popping.
Inshore there has been a good Trout bite around the swing bridge and the Redfish are everywhere. This coming weekend the IFA Redfish event is in Surf City on Saturday and It will be a good show. Come on out and see if the Pro’s can best these local boy’s. Hey you might get on T.V. Folks the best thing I can tell you to do now is get in the boat, go to the pier, or go in the surf, cause the fish are biting. I got to go fishing now so remember to take a kid with you and BE SAFE!
