Headhunter Outdoors Report 2-11-08

February 12th, 2008 by SFTC Press

Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Not much is happening folks, the water is cold and ain’t much biting. Now I’ve heard of a few Trout being caught way back in some of the creeks and a few Reds up in the New river. These few warm days are warming the water a little and the fish are hungry. It’s still hard fishing folks! A few hardcore surf fishermen are still at it but not too much is going on there either. Heck these warm sunny day we have had lately it might not be a bad way to waste a day! You might even get lucky and catch supper. Most everybody I know has gotten their boat stored for the winter. We haven’t had a really cold winter yet so maybe we will have an early spring and the fish will start biting soon. Remember the magic number is 60 degrees.
Now that deer season is out and there ain’t much to do why don’t you head to the woods and go into those areas you didn’t want to bother during the season. See what kind of sign you can find! Hey some big bucks have been taken in some little patches of woods. One of my buddies hunts about 150 yards from his back door and always takes some nice deer every year. A big buck can live comfortably in a 10 acre woodlot if he has food, water and cover to bed in. Think about all the deer you see in your neighborhood. Now I ain’t saying to be blasting away in the neighbors back yard next season folks or you might not be friends anymore! My point is to get into those thickets and bump the deer and see what is in there. If you do go be careful and watch for snakes! Take the kids and go scouting. Once kids learn what to look for they are fast and have a lot better eyes than most of us old farts. They can cover more ground too! Well thats about all I’ve got for this week folks so remember to be safe and take a kid with you! Capt. David
