Headhunter Outdoors Report 10-23-07

October 23rd, 2007 by SFTC Press

Hi folks Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. I really don’t know what to think about the spots. One day they are biting and the next day nothing. I guess the water is still a little warm for them to be running. Lets hope for some cooler weather, after all it is the end of October. The Reds are still biting really well both in the surf and in the sound. The surf on the north end of Lea island is a good spot,if you can find room! Everybody goes there for Reds and it’s a hotspot every year. The Flounder are thick back in the sound and are laying around just about every dock out there. A fat finger mullet on a Carolina rig is the best way to tempt Mr. Flatfish. Heck there might even be a nice red hanging out too. There is plenty off bait in the water,Menhaden,Finger mullet, and Shrimp in the creeks,so get some off all three. The Trout are around but they haven’t gotten fired up yet. Water temps again!

Offshore nothing has changed in the last couple of weeks. The fish are biting thanks to the warm water the kings are still close and everything else is too. It’s kind of like early summer to the fish. Find the bait and the fish ain’t far from them. Trolling or bottom fishing,it’s still good folks. Now go fishing!

On the hunting side, My buddy Mike Keffer of Wilminton called me the other evening and was about to bust! His 15 yr old son Angus had just killed his first deer and it was an 8 pointer. It was a mainframe 7 with a little kicker. Angus heard the deer get up in the thicket behind him and shake, then a couple of minutes later it stepped out in the field he was on the edge of. He dropped him where he stood with a 12 guage and a couple of well placed buckshot rounds. Mike said the boy was white as a sheet and he wasn’t sure he had breathed in a few minutes. Funny thing is they called me from the field when he got him! Some of my friends ain’t wrapped real tight! Great guys and the best friends a guy could want. Thats one of the things about taking your kids out in the field with you, the memories last a lifetime! Well thats about it for this week,so be safe and take a kid with you! Capt. David
