Hi folks Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Well the fishing is good and hunting season is in! Lets do the fishin’ first.
Offshore everything was biting till this weeks storm rolled through now it’s anybodys guess. When the seas lay down and folks can get out I’ll bet things haven’t changed much. The water will clear up in a few days and fishing usually gets better after a mild storm too. Check the weather forecast before you go out and be prepared in case something does happen.
Inshore the water is dirty but the fish are biting. Flounder and Redfish are laying all around the docks and in the creek mouths. Some Ladyfish are around along with Blues. The Trout are laying in the deep holes back in the creeks and are a sucker for a live Shrimp on a float rig in the early morning or late evening. The New river is full of Specks so try up around the bridge. I’ve been hearing of a few spots in the surf and the waterway, maybe it will not be long till the big ones start running. Folks as soon as it happens I’ll tell you. Be ready is my best advise!
I hope somebody got a deer Saturday and will send in a picture. I sat in a tree just about all day and saw nothing but birds. Deer-1 Capt. David-0. Thats why they call it hunting folks.Animals are a lot smarter than a lot of people give them credit for. How many of you could live in the woods without a house and in all weather conditions. The solitude and peace of the woods is something that touchs nonhunters and hunters alike. The hunting heritage and lifestyle is being lost in this country at an alarming pace and we as parents and grandparents need to pass it on to our young people. There is something to do besides computers,I-pods,Mp3’s Video games, cell phones, text messaging, and all the other things that clutter and complicate our lives. Enjoy the beauty and peace of the outdoors. The beach, the water,or the woods, get the kids and get out there. Folks we have plants and animals in the area that exist nowhere else on earth. Think about that! Well thats it for this week so be safe and take a kid with you.

Hi folks,Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. Folks the fishing is great now and will only get better as the weather starts to cool off. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumors of some spots starting to show up. They are still small but hopefully we will have a good run this fall. the surf is holding Pompano,Red and Black drum,Croakers, flounder and Speckled trout. The Trout bite seems to be the best in the morning. Back in the sound the Reds are wearing it out right now. If you sit long enough just about anywhere along the waterway and fish a finger mullet on a Carolina rig you will catch one. By the way the Flounder are everywhere too. I’ve been catching a lot of keepers around the docks along the waterway and Banks channel. The New river is full of trout along with Flounder and Reds. Heck if you can’t catch a fish now you need to quit. I hear that golf is fun!
Offshore the Kings are biting about everywhere and a lot of Sails are being caught while Kingfishing. All the reefs and rockpiles are loaded with bottom fish. You don’t know what might bite out there this time of the year. It could be as big as your hand or as big as you are. You never know! Mahi are still plentiful and are not to far out. The Grouper are biting as well. Check out the deeper reefs and ledges in the 20 mile range and take some heavy tackle.
Sunday I had a charter and we were in the neighborhood of Washington acres and had two Manatees swim by the boat. This is about as far north as they come and it’s great to see them in the area. I just hope they head south before it gets cold! Thats one of the things I like about living here, you never know what you will see out on the water.
I hope everyone went Dove hunting Saturday and got the limit. I went and only saw 2 birds. Hey, thats the way it goes sometimes.Deer season comes in on Saturday so get ready. As an animal population control specialist I will be doing my part till the season goes out. Remember to be safe and wear your safety harness when you go up that tree. Make sure your stand is safe as well. Get a new regulations digest and check out the new rules. They are hi-lighted in red. This year you can get extra doe tags at any wildlife agent location. Well thats it for this week, so be safe and send in your pictures. Take a kid with you too.
