Headhunter Outdoors Report 9-24-07
September 25th, 2007 by SFTC PressHi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Folks no matter what kind of fish you want to catch, now is the time. The sound and the ocean are equally as good now. Kings from the beach on out, Black bass and flounder on the artificial reefs, Grouper a little farther out on just about all the reefs and structure. The Mahi are still around but have moved a few miles. With the water temperatures falling a few degrees the offshore fish will be shifting farther out and the bottom fish will be trying to get fattened up for the winter.
Inshore the Redfish bite is still strong and some really nice flounder are being caught. The trout bite is starting to get better too. The Spots are starting to show up all along the waterway and from the piers and the surf too. I caught a few BIG black drum the other day on live Finger Mullet. They were 5-6 pound fish and were a blast on lite tackle. Folks the best thing I can say to help you catch fish is to go fishing! Don’t forget to go to the Spot Festival if you want some good food. I always gain a couple of pounds after a trip.
On the hunting side. I GOT ONE finally. Last Wednesday evening everything came together and a nice doe stepped out at 30 yards and now is on the way to being some tasty jerky. Myself and two of my best friends went to the mountains Thursday for a few days of huntin’ and had a ball. We saw several deer but were to far to get a shot at. We also saw loads of Turkeys. One day during the day we rode about 20 miles to Sparta N.C. and went to the Mountain Heritage Festival. My buddies had never been to something like that. Bluegrass music,Farm tractor shows, mountain crafts and food of all kinds. We had a ball! You know the funny thing about the dirt up there, it goes straight up or straight down! I bet my legs will still be sore till Friday from hiking up and down those hills. Well thats about it for the week from me so remember to take a kid with you and be safe in the great outdoors.
