Headhunter Outdoors Report 7-23-07
July 23rd, 2007 by SFTC PressHi folks Capt.David here with this weeks outdoors report. The fish are biting. Anywhere you go and whatever the fish, it’s biting! Inshore or Offshore, it’s happening. I’m not going to tell you where they are because the fish are biting everywhere. The Kings are everywhere outside and the Redfish are everywhere on the inside. Flounder are showing up in good numbers and are still small. I had a charter the other day and we caught 10 Flounder and only one was a keeper. I took my niece fishing the other week, she was in from western North Carolina, and she caught a 27 inch redfish all by herself. Then my Son-in-law The ladies man Leon Phelps. Filleted and cooked it up for her and it was the first time in her life that she caught a fish and eat it. It says something about our kids when they ain’t eat something that they have caught or hunted. She thought that was so cool, she told everybody back home about it. Thats one of my major concerns these days. Young folks think meat comes from the Food Lion or Harris-Teeter. There is not a person over 50 that is reading this right now that don’t know what I’m saying. Folks, our hunting and fishing heritage is too precious not to pass on to our kids and grandkids. We have more wildlife to hunt now than was here in the early 1900’s. Non game species also benefit from our hunting and fishing license fees. There has not been Elk in this state for over 150 years, but thanks to our license fees we have them in the mountains. 50 years ago Turkeys were numbered in the handfuls in this state. Now they are in every county in this state. Ask someone who has observed a deer or wild turkey in their backyard how they like it . Like my son-in-law says, vegetables are not food- Vegetables are what food eats. Now I know that ain’t politically correct but most of you can understand my drift. Hunting and Fishing are as American as apple pie. I also heard something on tv today that pretty much covers it. America was built and founded by rebellious people. Hey that was true then and now! Hunting season is coming in in September,so get ready boys and girls. Till next week, be safe and take a kid fishing!
