Headhunter Outdoors Report 6-25-07
June 25th, 2007 by SFTC PressHi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Well hunting season is out so all I have to talk about is FISHING. The Spanish are thick just outside off the inlets in the morning and the Kings are all the way in to the beach. They have been catching them off the piers along with some Tarpon being hooked up but not landed. I’ve heard that the Mahi are in to about 10-15 miles and the bottom fish like Grouper,Snapper, and Black bass are thick on the ledges and hardbottom area’s.
The Specks are Thick up in the New River and some nice Redfish are working the points as well. Topsail Inlet area is producing more Flounder but most of them are small. The Reds are along the banks in shallow water but are real finicky. One day they want live shrimp, then the next day they won’t hit nothing. It gets real frustating when you can see them but they won’t bite. Some big Blues are in the waterway too. Now I ain’t talking 2-3 pounders folks, I’m talking 10-12 pounders. The best way to get one is with a big Pogey on a float rig. Use a little wire leader so they won’t bite you off and Don’t stick your finger in one’s mouth or you will lose it.
Well thats about it for this week, so take a kid fishing! Capt. David
