Hi folks Capt.David with this weeks outdoors report. It’s Cold and everybody I know is being smart and warm. The fish ain’t biting so there ain’t much sense in freezing you tail off. I know that somebody will probably say thats bull, they went the other day and tore them up! All I got to say to that is, good for you. It’s a funny thing that a fish caught will gain at least a pound or two after it has been filleted and released. Just like that 100 lb 6 point buck will be a 175 lb monster buck in a few years of storytelling. I’m not saying that sportsmen and women are liars, we just colorfully embellish the truth to have a more interesting story to tell. See I included myself in that group. It won’t be long and you know how I can tell? IT’S DAYTONA TIME! I know thats not what I;m supposed to write about but heck it’s NASCAR folks and any good southern boy will tell you thats a better sign of spring than any ole whistlepig.
I would like to start of telling you folks about some of the fine outdoors businesses we are lucky to have in the area. Herrings outdoors is one such establishment. Steve and Jessie Bailey have one of the finest stores on the island for the outdoorsman in all of us. From Kayak rentals to bike rentals to fishing tackle and tips these folks have their game down pat. They also offer clothing and other types of outdoors wear. They and their staff are extremely knowledgable and will be glad to answer any and all questions you may have. If you can’t find it there you probably don’t need it anyway! Herrings is an island institution that I hope will be here for a long time. Take a little time and check them out, you might find something you need and the conversation is always friendly and free!
Well thats it for this week so be safe and take a kid with you. Don’t forget your fishing license either! Capt. David

Hi folks Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. It’s cold and the fish are real slow and are biting even slower. I guess that all we can hope for is an early spring. Hopefully the groundhogs prediction of an early warm-up is true. Now I know that cabin fever is or will get to you sooner or later but never fear. Time to break out the catalogs and wish and dream for that magical rod or lure that the fish will jump in the boat after. You could go out and try to kick up a rabbit or two with the kids or go looking for deer signs in your favorite hunting area. What can I say folks this is the time of the year that really gets to me cause there ain’t much to do. All my guns are clean and in the gun safe, my duck boat is put up till next winter, and my fishing boat is just screaming to be wet. I guess all we have to look forward to is spring turkey season and the fish to start biting. Here in the next few weeks I’m going to try and educate some of ya’ll about the local businesses catering to the outdoorsmen of our area, so be looking for it in the future.
I really wish more of you folks would send in photo’s of your fish and game to us for publication. I know that folks are harvesting some nice deer and catching some big fish, so get your 15 minutes of fame and send them in. Men,women, and children we want your photo’s! You folks would get sick and tired of seeing my ugly mug in the paper all the time so we need some fresh faces for print. Anyway thats about it for the week so be safe and take a kid with you. Capt. David
