Hi folks Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. The fishing is pretty slow now with the weather the way it has been lately. There are still some Specks in the sound that are willing to bite but you have got to find a deep hole. I’ve heard of a few Trout and Drum around the old Permuda Island bridge but they are hard to catch . If you are determined to fish in the cold I would either go way back up a creek or on a dark mudflat on a sunny day. A couple of degrees can make a lot of difference in the fish and their feeding habits. Fish still have to eat in the winter but they don’t eat as much and are slower to hit. If by chance you run across a school of bait and can catch some, float it under a bobber over a deep hole and see what happens! Any way the fishing is slow and will be for a while so get used to it folks. Remember that spring is just around the corner!
Well another duck season has come and gone. The early season was fairly good but the birds never showed. The weather just didn’t cooperate and get cold enough to push the birds down here. But don’t worry guys the weather will get real cold and next week we can go sit and watch all the birds fly by. SAFELY! Heck I’ll bet that in a couple of weeks every bird in the world will be here laughing their feathered butts off at us! There’s always next year folks and I plan on being ready for next season. A word of note: Deer season is out now so you can take the dog box out of the truck and save a little gas. Plus you can haul all the stuff thats been piling up around the house to the dump. By the time this goes to print Squirrel season will be out as well. Hey you can always go predator hunting, Bobcat season is in till Febuary 28 and Coyotes are always in season. Yes we have coyotes around here folks and the population is growing.Quail and Rabbit are in till Feb. 28th as well. Even though the numbers of birds are not a the levels they were in the late 60’s there are still some birds around or you can go to a hunting preserve and have a good time. Nothing compares to a good dog on a hard point and the birds flushing. Gentleman Bob will thrill even the best of us and its a good way to get kids into the sport. Well thats about it for this week so take a kid with you into the great outdoors and have some good old fashoined fun. Capt. David
