Sorry folks for the delay in fishing news. We’ve been pretty busy with moving and trying to get set up in our new home. Any way back to fishing news, the waters are slam full of red drum. A few speckled trout are showing up in the river, along with a few of the big yellow fin spots everyone’s waiting for, they should be coming in good in the next few weeks. Whiting and gray trout are showing up too. Blue fish are here so stay away from the brass hooks and anything shinny unless blues are what you want to catch. Flounder are out there, some door mats are being caught but for the most part their still on the medium side. Surf fishing is well, okay, if you like getting sand blasted. North east winds have been kinda strong in the last week or so. Some spots and blues are running along with red drum and black drum and a few flounder. Mullet minnows seem to be the bait of choice for drum and flounder. Shrimp, squid or cut bait for the pan fish ( spots, croakers, trout, whiting) .Off shore, if you can get out for the wind, kings are in the ten mile range. Well, I think that’s about it for now, so keep your worm wigglin’. Remember, B & B Bait and Tackle is open 7 am to 7 pm Sunday through Thursday 7 am to 9 pm Friday and Saturday October 7th and 8th we’ll be open 24 hours for the fall fishing tournament for your convienence Adam and Jennifer Burton B & B Bait and Tackle 1301 Bridge Barrier Rd. 910-458-4644

Whiting are a plenty too. Some trout being caught back in the river along with the red drum. The baits of choice seem to be mud minnows, finger mullet or cut mullet and shrimp. We’ve had a few good fishing trips in June. Adam and his friend Robert, landed several small flounder at the first of the month, mostly in the ICWW. But by the end of the month we were catching keepers. Charles, Daniel and Adam went 2 weeks ago and pulled in nine flounder but only 5 were keepers. Shari Moore caught a woppin’ 5 pounder July 1st. You Go Girl! Surf fishing is pretty good right now, pompano, blues, some summer flounder, and a few red and black drum. River fishing bites right now, sharks are everywhere. Much more than that, Snow’s Cut, the Inlet and structures on the ICWW are the place to be. Keep your worm wigglin’ .

Well, the fishing is picking up, thank goodness. Some nice Virginia mullets are being caught in the surf along with some big blue fish. Citation size pompano are still out there too. Spanish Mackerel are coming in as you can see from the picture below. Remember, spanish have a 12 inch size limit and you’re only allowed 15 a day per person. King Mackerel have a limit of 24 inches and a bag limit of 3 per day. Flounder are coming in a little smaller in size that this time last year. Don’t forget about the new flounder rules that went into effect April 1st 2005, flounder has a size limit of 14 inches in all waters and a bag limit of 8 per person. Croakers are everywhere in the river along with spots. Adam and I were back in the river last week an they looked like they were walking ontop of the water they were so thick. Shrimp and cut mullet seem to be the bait of choice. Ya’ll keep your worm wigglin’ and have fun.

Well the weather’s warming up and the fishing is getting better. Virginia mullets and croakers are being caught off the piers. Believe it or not we actually caught a few flounder and spots in the ICW ( Inter-coastal waterway). Although none of them were keepers, its a good sign of what’s to come this summer. Sting rays and blow toads are plentiful, and still the occasional red and black drum are being caught around structures and a few in the surf. The reported water temp. is around 64, but I stuck my toe in the water today and it seem to disagree. The North End ( Freeman Park) is now only accessible with a daily or yearly pass.Yearly passes are available at B & B Bait and Tackle for $ 40. Daily passes $10, are available at the entrance of the park. B & B Bait and Tackle have opened a new cleaning station for those of you who don’t like to clean your own catch. Till next time keep, your worm wigglin’. Adam & Jennifer Burton
